Events and Activities

Before joining us as a volunteer (on any of the volunteer sessions) you will need to complete the form on our website (if you haven't done so already - it only needs to be completed once).

Volunteers must also be aged 18 or over.

Volunteer Session

For this one we’ll work as a team to clear litter from the river. Some of you may be happy to help us in the river itself whilst the rest of you can support along the river bank, spotting for hazards and taking the litter from our wading crew! Whilst there, it’s the perfect opportunity to look for signs of water voles too.

If you would like to attend and plan to get in the river you will need to wear wellies (if you have your own waders you could bring these if you are happy to) otherwise sturdy walking boots for walking along the bank. You could also bring gloves (we do have some but you may prefer your own thick gloves or rubber gloves) and should wear long trousers and long sleeves.

If sunny you should apply sunscreen and may want to wear a hat. You should also bring a drink as well as lunch if you are staying the whole day.

9.30am to 3pm

Meet at the volunteer compound.

Activity level: moderate to heavy.

Free Event

Prospective Hogwarts students (along with your magical or muggle friends and family) are invited to Victoria Park’s Harry Potter Day on Saturday 11 October.

Each witch or wizard will receive their Hogwarts letter and list of required equipment. They can then test their knowledge of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on a trail around the park to collect their school things.

For even more of a challenge, the eagle-eyed among you should look out for one of our escaped snitches. If you manage to find one and return it to our professors you will be rewarded with a special snitch cake courtesy of Harper’s Café.

Harper’s Café will also have some tasty treats on sale for when you need a pit stop (and not a bogey flavoured Bertie Bott’s Bean in sight!)

Parking at the park for cars, carriages and brooms will be very limited so please take public transport or walk if you can. There is a nearby car park on Victoria Road, which is just a five minute stroll away but this is not free so visitors will need to pay.

So come along at any time from 10am to 2pm for a magical day!

16 October - Apple Scratting

20 November - Woodland Clearance

20 November - Woodland Clearance

Volunteer Session

This session will appeal to juice and cider fans as we harvest apples from the park's orchards and carry out scratting.

Scratting is where apples are broken down or pulped. The process increases the surface area of the fruit enabling more juice extraction.

If you would like to attend you should wear long trousers and long sleeves. If sunny you should apply sunscreen and may want to wear a hat. You should also bring a drink as well as lunch if you are staying the whole day.

9.30am to 3pm

Meet at the volunteer compound.

Activity level: moderate.

For this day we’ll be opening up some of the woodland down in Watercress Fields to improve sightlines and clear a little of the undergrowth that is taking over.

If you would like to attend you should wear long trousers and long sleeves. Gloves are provided but you may prefer to bring your own. You should also bring a drink as well as lunch if you are staying the whole day.
